Zidane: Madrid needed a change

Outgoing Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane has claimed the club needed ‘another way of working’, hence his resignation from the role.

The Frenchman made the shock decision to step down from his position as Madrid Coach after two-and-a-half years, just five days after winning his third successive Champions League title.

“I've taken the decision to not continue next year as Real Madrid Coach,” Zidane told reporters on Thursday.

“I made this decision because I love this club, I love (Florentino Perez) and I am grateful towards him.

“This is the best moment for everyone, it might seem a bit strange, but it had to be done for the good of all of us. This team needs to keep winning, and it needs a change after three years, a new voice, another way of working.

“There are difficult moments when you can wonder whether you are the right person still. I do not forget the hard times, as well as the good times, and that makes you reflect. And this is the right moment.

“Real Madrid have given everything to me. I will be forever close to this club, to my club.”
