Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has explained he requested a guard of honour from the club’s staff on the way off the pitch.
The Blaugrana were not afforded one at the start of the match by Real Madrid despite having won the league title the previous week.
“We are a family,” Pique reportedly said, as cited by Marca.
“They (Madrid) did not want to give us a guard of honour but I thought it was appropriate for us to have one from our staff as we leave the pitch.”
Talk surrounding the guard of honour had provided controversy in the build-up to the match, which finished 2-2 on Sunday.
