Betis secure European qualification

Real Betis have secured a place in next season’s Europa League thanks to Monday’s comeback victory at home to already-relegated Malaga.

A fantastic strike from Fabian Ruiz twenty minutes from time sealed the victory for Quique Setien’s side, who had fallen behind to Yussef En-Nesyri’s early strike.

The Moroccan forward gave the Costa del Sol side a shock lead in the 20th minute with an emphatic finish past Pedro Lopez – who was deputising for Betis due to Antonio Adan’s and Dani Gimenez’s absence.

The shock lead only lasted four minutes due to Malaga captain Roberto Rosales conceding possession in his own area with Riza Durmisi taking full advantage and firing home.

In the 72nd minute and the tie still finely poised, Fabian took the ball 25 yards out from goal and rifled an effort into the bottom corner of the net.

Betis could yet make the Champions League places, but trail fourth-placed Valencia by eight points with just three games remaining.
