Report: Barca doubt on Arthur deal

Barcelona are unsure on whether or not to complete the signing of Gremio midfielder Arthur despite paying a €4m deposit, say reports in Spain.

Last month, the Catalan giants confirmed the deal was in place for the 21-year-old which would see them pay a release clause of €30m, which would rise to €39m including bonuses.

However, El Mundo Deportivo now report the deal is not completely certain and the Blaugrana must make a final decision on their purchase option by 15 July.

The Brazilian midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough 2017, helping Gremio win the Copa Libertadores and reach the Club World Cup Final, where they faced Real Madrid.

He has also represented Brazil at Under-17 and Under-20 level and been called up to the senior squad several times, although without making an appearance.

“Arthur is a midfielder who is known for his passing ability,” Barca’s website explained upon initially announcing the deal.

“Another of his qualities is his ability to lose his man, a factor that makes him a danger close to the opponents’ area.

“The Brazilian is excellent at protecting the ball and can come up with the final pass in the final third.”
