Sevilla: Montella stays, Arias sacked

Sevilla have backed Coach Vincenzo Montella but have decided to dismiss sporting director Oscar Arias at the end of the campaign.

A five-hour crisis meeting at boardroom level on Tuesday evening culminated with the Italian tactician remaining but Arias, who replaced Monchi in the role last year, will be dismissed.

"Sevilla FC is confident of having a new Director of Football within the month and is already working on a new technical configuration,” President Jose Castro told a press conference.

“We are without a doubt at the edge of a change in who will direct our Sporting Committee, because above all else we know that there have been mistakes this year that we have to put right.

“We have things to change and we will change them because that's why we're here and we have that responsibility".

Castro also noted that in a meeting, Montella had shown “strength” and pledged to get Sevilla into Europe.
