‘Roma taught Barca a lesson’ – Alisson

Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker believes his side ‘taught Barcelona a football lesson’ in their 3-0 victory on Tuesday night.

The Serie A side completed a remarkable turnaround in their Champions League quarter-final clash with three unanswered goals in the second leg.

“I watched the whole game over again that night and didn’t go to bed until 5am,” Alisson told Brazilian television Sport TV.

“We taught Barcelona a football lesson, it was the perfect match and an historic night for the club. I am honoured to have taken part in this event. The city is celebrating.

“It was difficult. All week we watched back the first leg, realised we could do it and the only difference they had from us was Lionel Messi.

“We knew that we had to put in the perfect performance. We let them play a little more in the first leg, but that was only natural, as they were playing at home, but we certainly didn’t deserve to lose 4-1.

“The referee didn’t award us a clear penalty that could’ve changed the game and we were unlucky on two own goals. Yet we all believed that we could achieve this turnaround and destiny wanted it so that those who scored the own goals were on target in the second leg.

“Barcelona never really had a scoring opportunity, while we could’ve had more than three. It was enormously satisfying to achieve qualification for us, the club and the fans.”
