Barcelona have been given the green light to begin the expansion of their Camp Nou stadium from a capacity of 99,354 to 105,000.
Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the news of the €600m project on Thursday with the ground surrounding the stadium to also be upgraded.
“This is an important project for the club and this news is fantastic for the club and our city,” Bartomeu told reporters.
“The benefits are for everyone and it is a conscientious plan which will ensure the stadium and area become an open space, without barriers and with green zones.
“This will include a revamp of the Camp Nou and the reconstruction of a new Palau Blaugrana (the club’s basketball arena).
“We can now see this project becoming a reality.”
