Fernando Torres ‘will return to Atletico Madrid in the future’ in a non-playing capacity, the club’s president Enrique Cerezo insists.
The 34-year-old confirmed on Monday that he would be ending his second stint at Los Rojiblancos at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires.
“I'm sure Torres will return to Atletico in the future,” Cerezo told Cadena Cope.
“I was only made aware of his departure when Antonio Sanz called the club at 11am and informed me of the news.
“I was not able to express myself the way I wanted to whenever I heard the news as, for me, it was unexpected to hear and it saddens me.
“I have since spoken to Fernando and I am sure he will return to the club one day, when he does he will be very well received.”
