Valencia season a ‘miracle’ – Marcelino

Valencia Coach Marcelino has described his debut season at the Mestalla as ‘a miracle’ as they moved up to third in La Liga.

Los Che have won five consecutive league games and eight of their last nine as they leapfrogged Real Madrid with Sunday’s victory over Espanyol.

“Our season is close to a miracle, I believe,” Marcelino told reporters, as cited by Valencia’s official media.

“This is my opinion of course but it is amazing and everything is due to the players that we have in the squad and the work they have put in.

“To compete and match the two giants from Madrid is a fantastic level, after 31 matches to be above Madrid and three points behind Atletico is brilliant.

“Only Barcelona are seriously ahead of us and they have not lost a match all season, so this is normal.

“We have remained incredibly competitive but also remained humble and our next objective must be to ensure Champions League football next season.

“However, we want to push for the maximum and we aim to finish runners-up this season, which would be incredible for us.”
