Madrid offer United ‘first refusal on Bale’

Real Madrid have offered Manchester United a ‘first refusal’ option on Gareth Bale as the two clubs reportedly held informal transfer discussions.

A report in the Manchester Evening News outlined how officials of the two clubs recently held a meeting regarding the future of several players.

The Welsh forward was said to be the number one subject of discussion, with Madrid also enquiring about the futures of David De Gea, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

In return, Los Blancos are said they would be open to offering Luka Modric or Toni Kroos in a de facto ‘swap’ deal should United consider such a move.

Multiple reports in Spain – most notably in Diario AS – have linked Bale with a move away form the Bernabeu this summer due to lack of regular fitness and playing time.

The former Tottenham forward did not feature in Madrid’s 3-0 victory at Juventus on Tuesday night.
