Setien: Euro qualification in our hands

Real Betis Coach Quique Setien insists European qualification is ‘now in our hands’ after Monday night’s victory at Getafe.

Los Verdiblancos leapfrogged city neighbours Sevilla into sixth spot and a Europa League place with the victory – their third La Liga triumph in a row.

“We hope that at the end of the season we can celebrate a place in Europe, now it is in our hands,” Setien is cited as saying by ABC de Sevilla after that game.

“Maybe we did not deserve the three points but plenty of other times we have deserved the points and not won them.

“We want to play better of course but this was always going to be a difficult match, just like Alaves won, who defend very well with and without the ball.

“The controversy is part of football, sometimes it is in your favour and sometimes against you, we have been on the opposite side of this and we would question this in their position too.

“We are now in a good position and with fewer games left we are in good shape, players have recovered from injuries and short-term expectations are more manageable.

“We want a place in Europe, we want to give joy to our fans.”
