No Madrid players are reserves – Zidane

Zinedine Zidane does not want any of his first-team squad players at Real Madrid to think of themselves as ‘reserves’.

The Frenchman was asked about a regular run of games for a number of Madrid players including Gareth Bale, Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez – with only one expected to start against Juventus on Tuesday.

“Players should not think like that because I do not and it will not be beneficial,” Zidane told reporters at a press conference on Monday, as cited by Marca.

“I do not see any of the players in my first-team squad as reserve players, there are 25 players here in this squad who all have a great level of value and have something different for us.

“It is different for players when you look at their form with their national squad compared to their clubs, just look at Isco – for Spain he has eight matches and for us, we have 60.

“We play every three days, we must rotate all the time between the competitions and that is my way of coaching and every player is subject to it.”
