Coentrao wants permanent Madrid exit

Fabio Coentrao wishes to remain at Sporting CP beyond the current season and make his loan move from Real Madrid permanent.

The 29-year-old joined the Lisbon-based giants on a season-long loan deal last summer and has made 18 league starts for Jorge Jesus’s side.

“I want to remain here beyond this season, I am happy again,” Coentrao told an interview with Marca.

“I have a contract with Madrid of course and I am incredibly grateful for what they have done for me, and I would not celebrate against them in any scenario – my respect for them is full.

“However, I am doing well here, I am enjoying my football and I would like to spend the rest of my career at Sporting.”

Coentrao originally joined Madrid in 2011 but made only 43 La Liga starts for the European champions.
