Simeone delight at ‘brilliant’ Griezmann

Diego Simeone expressed his delight at Antoine Griezmann’s ‘brilliant’ form after Atletico Madrid’s 4-1 win over FC Copenhagen.

The French forward scored one and assisted another as the Rojiblancos came from behind to win the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 clash.

It means Griezmann now has five goals from his last six matches in all competitions.

“He is going through a brilliant period,” Simone told reporters after his side all but secured progress to the last 16.

“We need to make the most of it so that he keeps giving this team everything.

“The team played a good match in general. Everyone was at a good level.

“We linked up well and we found ways to get goals.”

The Argentine Coach was particulary pleased with the way his players responded to going a goal behind in the Danish capital.

“The players responded in a very good way.

“Although we were losing to begin with, the team were doing well.

“We played the match we wanted to play.

“The equaliser gave us the calmness to look for goals. We got ourselves a very important victory.”

Atleti’s next fixture is Sunday’s La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“We played a good match and now we prepare Sunday’s game with calm. It will be difficult, like all matches in La Liga.”
