Kroos suffers knee ligament damage

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has suffered knee ligament damage in training, the club confirmed on Friday afternoon.

A statement on Madrid’s website stated the German international “has been diagnosed with a sprained to the exterior lateral ligament in the left knee.”

The 28-year-old may be forced to spend a spell on the timelines, although the club gave no indication of any expected lay-off and stated ‘he would continue to be assessed.”

Kroos has once again played an instrumental role in Madrid’s midfield this season, starting 28 matches but he now appears unlikely to feature at Real Betis this weekend.

Matteo Kovacic and Dani Ceballos are contenders to take the German's position in the team.
