The future of Racing Club striker and Argentina Under-20 international Lautaro Martinez remains uncertain following his latest comments.
In December there were widespread that the 20-year-old had agreed to join Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2018, which had appeared to be confirmed by his agent.
However, fresh reports suggest this may not be the case and the striker has now told reporters his intention had been to stay at Racing Club, amid suggestions Real Madrid were now interested.
“There were many offers due to the previous buyout clause in my old contract,” Martinez is quoted as saying by Argentine outlet Tyc Sports.
“I always wanted to remain at this club, it was always my idea and right now my decision is the same.”
Martinez was also said to have attracted strong interest from Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, but signed a new deal with the Argentine outfit last year.
