Zidane believes Madrid ‘needed’ win

Zinedine Zidane hailed the attitude of his Real Madrid players after their 7-1 rout of Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.

The visitors took a surprise early lead at the Bernabeu before the hosts hit back – netting seven goals at home for the first time in over two years.

“Everybody here needed a result like this,” Zidane told reporters after the match.

“It’s been a while since we have scored seven goals at the Bernabeu, so I am happy for all the players and not just those on the scoresheet.

“The attitude of the team was the most important aspect of that – we knew we had to just keep playing and we recovered well to allow ourselves to do just that.

“The only difference in this game has been the number of goals we have scored, and nothing else.

“We need more positivity from the fans and fewer whistles, but the result was for them because we know it is not easy.

“We know we can change style and formation – today was 4-3-3 – but today was more about our attitude and mentality.”
