United ‘close door’ on Ronaldo return

Manchester United have ‘closed the door’ on a return for Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report in Spain.

The Portuguese forward is reportedly seeking an exit from the Bernabeu after growing restless with his contractual situation at the club.

Marca now report that United – for whom the 32-year-old spent six years between 2003 and 2009 – will discontinue any lingering interest following the expected arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

The Chilean is set to move to Old Trafford this month in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and alongside Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – there are no more forward spaces available.

The report concludes that Ronaldo is most likely to make a future move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he could be used as a make-weight in a deal for Neymar.
