Athletic Bilbao have agreed to sign Romanian international defender Cristian Ganea in a deal worth €600k, according to reports.
The 25-year-old will join the Basque giants from Viitorul Constanta and qualifies to play for the club – who’s policy remains signing only players from their region – after spending his early years there.
The left-back played youth football with Basque side Indartsu before moving to Real Mallorca’s academy, but his parents still own a bar in the northern region.
Earlier this week, the Romanian stated, as quoted by Diario AS: “Athletic have expressed their interest in signing me and whilst they are in talks with me there is no agreement as yet.”
Athletic have not signed a player since Raul Garcia in the summer of 2015 but deals have been agreed with Eibar’s Ander Capa and midfielder Dani Garcia to join the club this summer, with this move also thought to be delayed until July.
