Zidane: Ball didn’t want to go in

Zinedine Zidane once more had no explanation for Real Madrid dropping points, other than “the ball didn’t want to go in.”

Madrid could end the weekend 19 points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga after they lost 1-0 at home to Villarreal, and Zidane again tried to look at the positives, despite another poor result.

“The first thing I’ll say that it’s difficult because we did everything,” he said after the game.

“We had many chances, but the ball didn’t want to go in and I have no explanation for it. It’s a difficult run and gone on for a while, but it’s what it is.

“I can’t criticise my players. The only thing I see is that it’s a bad time for us. It’s a difficult defeat because we didn’t deserve it.

“We have to look for the positives, and one is that we have a match in three days. It’s complicated, but it’s what we have to do.

“There are many who say it’s bad luck, but it’s mostly because the ball doesn’t want to go in.

“We tried in every way, but it just didn’t want to go in and I can’t explain it. We’ll end this bad run. That’s football.

“We’ve done some many good things and now we’re having a tough time of it. For the players, it’s complicated. Still, we’ll try and fight on.

“We still have things to show. There’s life and hope, and we have a match every three days. That’s the good thing.

“When things go well, you can sustain it, and when they go wrong, you can change it. We can do that by being a unit.

“The results have been very bad lately, but we’re going to change it by winning. We have to win by playing well. I hope it’s on Thursday or Sunday.

“Once we win a game, it’ll change things. We have to keep thinking that we’re going to change them.

“After we win a match, we must keep working hard so we can win the next one. We deserved to win in Vigo but drew.

“There are two teams, and what you have to do is score one more goal than your opponents. We’re trying to do that.

“I don’t think we’re predictable. The team haven’t hit rock bottom. We’re in a bad way and losing today was a blow, but we’ll keep going.”
