Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho would be a ‘great signing’ for Barcelona, according to current club captain Andres Iniesta.
The 33-year-old is reportedly the player who the Brazilian would replace long-term in the Blaugrana’s starting eleven, if their transfer plan comes off, but the central midfielder has endorsed the club’s efforts to sign the Liverpool player.
“Coutinho is a great team player with lots and lots of talent, he would be fantastic for us,” Iniesta told El Mundo Deportivo.
“He is equally adept with both feet, he links up well with other players, scores goal and gets between different phases and lines in attack, he would be what we want.
“His qualities fit into how we play and what we want and if the signing is finally complete, it would be great.
“Will he replace me? No, I see don’t see it as competition but as a big step forward for the club.”
