Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has explained why he believes his energy from the touchlines is important for his side – due to tight matches.
The Argentine is renowned for his high-energy touchline showings and often whipping up the support into making more noise, as to not let his side ‘relax’.
“When matches are in the balance, I try to get involved from the dugout,” Simeone told L’Equipe, as cited by Marca.
“Teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG can win games 4-0 regularly, but here it’s not like that and we need to maintain our tempo and rhythm.
“I feel that if I relax, my team relaxes – it is the same for any Coach, it is very important what messages they transmit to their players through body language.
“Coaches who don’t shout and scream and run are ones who can win matches 4-0, so that is a difference.
“I like to keep close to the pitch partly due to nerves and uncertainty – I was the same when I was a player, that keeps you alert.”
