Marcelino banned for Barca game

Valencia Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral will have to watch his side’s clash with Barcelona from the stands after being handed a two-game touchline ban.

The 52-year-old, who is unbeaten as the club’s tactician, was sent off last week against Espanyol after protesting to referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez and the club’s appeal on the decision has failed.

“Having evaluated the visual and written allegations presented by Valencia CF, we consider that what was written in the game report by the referee is compatible with what occurred,” read a statement from the Spanish FA’s Competition Committee.

“Therefore, the allegations have been rejected and we confirm the two-match ban to Marcelino Garcia Toral and fine him €600 while the club is fined €700.”

Marcelino will also be banned from the touchline for his side’s match with Getafe early next month.
