Lautaro Martinez to stay in Argentina?

Racing Club striker and Atletico Madrid target Lautaro Martinez is set to remain in Argentina until next summer at least, say reports.

The Argentina Under-20 international was reported to have a €9m release clause in his contract triggered by Atleti, while Monaco were also said to be interested.

However, the player’s further has told Argentinean media that his short-term future remains in his homeland and also recalled how he previously rejected a move to Real Madrid.

“Fans of Racing Club should remain calm, as for now Lautaro has decided to stay at the club,” Mario Martinez told TyC Sports.

“Jorge Sampaoli has given him a green light for the World Cup if he impresses in the build-up and this is a big moment.

“The story about Real Madrid in 2015 is true; everything had been agreed and signed but ultimately Lautaro decided not to move as he was not ready for Europe at that time.”

Diego Costa and Vitolo are both joining Diego Simeone’s side in the New Year and a series of exits over the next twelve months are expected.
