Barcelona want to offer Lionel Messi a ‘contract for life’ in an attempt to silence speculation regarding his future, according to reports in Spain.
The Blaugrana agreed a similar arrangement with captain Andres Iniesta last month while the Argentine has reportedly already agreed to a contract extension until 2021.
A report in El Mundo Deportivo states officials at the Camp Nou are preparing the possibility of offering their attacking star – who’s future has been in the spotlight – a lifetime arrangement with the club.
The report states the ‘madness of the market’ has forced the club’s hand in thinking of such a contract, which would avoid a potential repeat of Neymar’s €222m exit to Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi has previously stated he wishes to end his career in Argentina with his hometown club Newell's Old Boys.
