Willem II’s Spanish striker Fran Sol feels like he has been ‘born again’ after being given the all-clear from testicular cancer.
The 25-year-old has eight goals in 11 starts for the Eredivisie side this season but admitted he feared he would not be able to play football again.
“The urologist noticed a black spot and told me it was a tumor,” Sol recounted to Cadena Cope.
“I had a cup match on Wednesday, and I thought it would be my last game. I cried a lot and on Thursday they operated on me.
“They carried out a number of tests and then I got the news the spot was not a tumour and that I would not have problems with fertility.
“It feels like I have been born again.”
Sol previously played for Lugo, Real Oviedo and Villarreal before switching to the Dutch side last year.
