Diego Simeone is confident his Atletico Madrid players can emerge from a low-key start to the season with just five wins in 14 matches.

Atleti were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal on Saturday as they slipped eight points behind league leaders Barcelona but Simeone remained upbeat.

“I must keep looking for ways to end this and trusting in the players I have right now,” Simeone told reporters after the game.

“We have strong players and a strong team at our disposal and things will get better, I always want to look on the positive side.

“Angel (Correa) scored a fantastic goal and is a player who is always improving, I have spoken with him and hopefully this trend continues.

“The match was always going to be difficult due to Villarreal’s strength and despite creating many chances we could not finish the game.

“We must stay calm and playing like this, we are creating chances and the wins will come.”
