Saul Niguez has described the importance of ‘strong foundations’ in place at Atletico Madrid in the midst of the side’s poor run of form.
Diego Simeone’s side remain unbeaten in La Liga this campaign but have won only five of 14 matches across all competitions, but the Spain international is not concerned by this.
“It seems that everything is going to collapse, but the foundations are strong,” Saul told a wide-ranging interview with Marca.
“We are all mature, we are adults and we know that we do not have to pay attention to what is outside of the squad.
“It’s true that everything that surrounds us is negative but the truth is that inside is where we are stronger. That is what I love so much about this club.
“We need to keep taking the situation one game at a time, first we must focus on Qarabag and then when that is over, all our focus will only be on our league game with Deportivo.
“It is a difficult season for us as we did not have a home game for a number of weeks and then we have to adapt to a new stadium.
“Yes it is true we have fantastic players arriving in January, but also we are the same players from last season: a really strong, competitive team and we are calm.
“We are not scoring enough goals but to be honest, I would be more concerned if we were not creating chances – we are confident we will start to take them.”
