Diego Simeone has hailed the ‘professionalism and maturity’ of Saul Niguez after his performance against Barcelona on Saturday.
The Spain international netted the opening goal during the 1-1 draw with the league leaders at the Wanda Metropolitano and put in a starring performance.
“Saul is still improving and getting better,” Simeone told reporters.
“Not only is he a hugely important player for our present team but also for the future of the club and we hope he keeps continuing on this projection and increasing his skills.
“On Saturday, he got up particularly early in order to go to the gym and put in a workout which would allow him to be fit for the game against Barcelona that night.
“This shows a real professionalism and maturity and you can see that increasing every day and I hope he continues to give that to the club.”
The 22-year-old signed a remarkable nine-year contract at extension at Atleti earlier this year, tying his future to the club until 2026.
