Busquets ‘pride’ as Spanish centurion

Sergio Busquets has revealed his ‘pride’ after winning his 100th cap for Spain in Monday night’s 1-0 win at Israel.

The Barcelona midfielder became a centurion for his nation eight years after making his debut in a World Cup qualifying match against Turkey.

“To reach this landmark fills me with pride,” Busquets told Marca after the match.

“It means I rank alongside players who have achieved so much for the team and this means so much, I want to thank those who have made it possible for me.

“Thank you to (former manager, Vicente) Del Bosque for the years we shared together and where this journey started for me with a title, I will always be grateful!

“Israel were a tough opponent and made us suffer but we controlled the game and deserved to win.”
