Xavi explains Messi ‘frustration’

Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez has described how Lionel Messi ‘gets very annoyed’ when he is not playing a key role in matches.

Xavi, 37, has played with Qatari club Al Sadd for the past two seasons and won a host of trophies with the Argentine star at the Camp Nou including seven La Liga crowns and four Champions League titles.

“If Leo isn’t heavily involved in the game, he gets very annoyed,” Xavi told Diario Sport.

“He has to be where things are happening and to be part of the game, and it is true that if he goes ten minutes without touching the ball, then Barcelona and Argentina will struggle.

“His teammates must try and find him, to get him involved and influencing proceedings.”
