Thiago: Pique fully committed to Spain

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara believes international teammate Gerard Pique is fully committed to the Spanish national team.

The Barcelona defender has offered to retire from international football if his views on holding a Catalan independence was a problem for Coach Julen Lopetegui.

However, Pique faced derogatory whistles and chants during an open training session for the national team on Monday, forcing the event to be abandoned after 23 minutes.

“We have seen him show the same commitment as always,” Thiago told reporters at a press conference.

“He has the same energy and the same joy that he always has but we all only want to come to play football and win games with Spain.

“We are disappointed not to be able to talk and focus on the upcoming games against Albania or Israel – we must focus on discussing the game and nothing else.

“We are not here to discuss personal views or political opinions, all that is important here is qualifying for the World Cup.”
