Diego Simeone hailed the return of Atletico Madrid’s ‘most decisive player’ Antoine Griezmann after he netted the winner on Saturday against Malaga.
It was Los Rojiblancos first match in their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium and the French forward’s strike just after the hour mark was enough to down the resilient Andalucians.
“Antoine is coming back to being our team’s most decisive player, it was a fantastic goal,” Simeone is quoted as saying by Marca.
“I will never forget that strike, it was an incredible, historic moment and I will always remember celebrating it with (Simeone’s assistant) German Burgos.
“The stadium is fantastic – the fans are very close to the pitch and in tight matches, they will be able to encourage us and make the difference.
“It’s a spectacular venue with a very big pitch and incredible facilities, we are all excited.”
