Correa thought of leaving Atleti

Angel Correa has admitted he ‘thought about’ leaving Atletico Madrid ‘many times’ before getting a run in the team this season.

The Argentine netted when he came on from the bench during the league opener at Girona before starting the following games against Las Palmas and Valencia with Antoine Griezmann suspended.

Correa moved to Los Rojiblancos in 2015, scoring nine La Liga goals in only 18 starts over his first two seasons.

The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer with Real Sociedad reportedly coming close to a deal.

“Yes it’s true that I thought about it many times,” Correa told an interview with El Pais when asked if he had previously considered leaving.

“I always want to play, it is the mindset you must be in as a professional and what you prepare for, so when you don’t it is difficult.

“When you don’t play for a while it changes your mentality and it is hard to get back into the mindset of preparing for games regularly.

“Now I am getting more opportunities to play I must take advantage of that and ensure I impress the Coach.”
