Diego Simeone has revealed the key reason behind him extending his contract at the club was because no star players departed this summer.
The Argentine Coach extended his contract at the club by two years earlier this week – to June 2020 – and explained how the FIFA-imposed registration ban on the club forced him into a decision.
“When we found out we couldn’t sign any players this summer, all I requested was that nobody was allowed to leave the club,” Simeone told the club’s website.
“That is what happened and it is the reason why I am still here – we still have Saul, Griezmann and Koke which is fantastic.
“If I had the money to sign players or be asked if I would rather keep the squad together and not sign anybody, I would opt for the latter.
“I am privileged because of the players we have at the club – they are special.”
