Simeone signs two-year Atleti extension

Diego Simeone has signed a contract extension at Atletico Madrid which will see him remain at the club until June 2020.

A year ago, the Argentine Coach took the odd move of reducing his contract at Los Rojiblancos by two years, which would see his deal expire at the end of the current campaign.

However, ‘Cholo’ has now committed his future to the club for a further two years with the club’s official website stating there is ‘total cohesion’ between the manager and the club.

The 47-year-old was instilled as Atleti boss in 2011 and led the club to the 2013 Copa Del Rey crown before securing a historic La Liga title twelve months later.

Simeone has also led Atletico to two Champions League finals, and in four seasons in Europe’s premier club competition has only ever lost to Real Madrid.
