Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez rejected reports Lionel Messi will leave the club and insisted his contract will be signed ‘at the right moment’.
Reports over the weekend suggested Manchester City could trigger the Argentine’s €300m release clause at the Camp Nou, with his current deal expiring next summer.
“There is total agreement for Messi's renewal on both sides,” Fernandez told BeIn Sports on Sunday evening after the Blaugrana defeated Real Betis 2-0.
“We are waiting for the right time to sign it, there's nothing else to it. We already know how key Messi is not only for us but he's a very important player for all of football.”
