Barca ‘confident’ on Messi renewal

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre is confident Lionel Messi will put pen to paper on a new Barcelona deal and would be ‘very surprised’ if it did not happen.

Scrutiny over the Argentine’s future has intensified in recent weeks following the departure of Neymar from the Camp Nou and speculation questioning the club’s ambition.

“This has already been discussed and agreed,” Mestre is quoted as saying by Diario Sport.

“Everything seems correct ahead of the signing. We are just waiting to agree upon a date for the signature.

“The renewal is moving in the direction we want it to – I would be very surprised if it did not happen."
