Douglas to Girona via City

Girona are expected to complete the loan signing of highly-rated Brazilian Douglas Luiz after his permanent move to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are thought to have paid in the region of €12m for the Vasco de Gama midfielder  but do not see him as part of their first-team plans next season.

Reports in El Mundo Deportivo and Diario Sport reflects those in Globoesporte which state the 19-year-old will join the newly-promoted La Liga club imminently following his arrival in Manchester.

The Catalan side are now a de facto ‘satellite club’ for City, as they are set to be part of the City Football Group – which includes the English club, New York City and Melbourne City.

The Manchester club’s director of football Txiki Begiristain reportedly played a huge role in ensuring Girona completed the permanent signing of Middlesbrough defender Bernardo Espinosa.

Douglas is a Brazilian Under 20 international and missed only one match this season for Vasco, who are currently 10th in the Brazilian league.
