Gimenez ‘dreams’ of England move

Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez has admitted he ‘dreams’ of playing in the English Premier League one day due to its competitiveness.

The 22-year-old has found regular playing time at Los Rojiblancos hard to come by, starting only 12 La Liga matches last season, fuelling speculation he could leave the club.

"I dream of playing in the Premier League because all of the matches are fairly even," Gimenez is quoted by Marca as telling Uruguayan journalist Federico Buysan.

"But if Atletico offer me a contract for life, I will stay."

Gimenez – once viewed as the long-term successor for compatriot Diego Godin at the Vicente Calderon – has often found himself behind Stefan Savic and Lucas Hernandez in team selections last season.

AS have previously reported Gimenez, who moved to Madrid from Danubio in 2013, as having a release clause of around €45m.
