Atletico Madrid have reportedly inserted a €150m release clause into Saul Niguez’s new, nine-year contract.
According to Marca, it is a sign of Atleti’s intent to “shield” Saul from growing interest after his impressive performances at the European Under-21 Championship.
Furthermore, the midfielder would have commanded the same exit clause as that of teammate Koke.
“Saul’s an example to all the youngsters in our academy,” sporting director Jose Luis Caminero told Los Colchoneros’ official website.
“He’s an example of how to apply oneself and work for the team, an example of solidarity on the pitch and impressive quality.
“We must be very happy for this agreement because he’s a great player and I see no limits in his growth.”
