Diego Simeone insists “I’ve commented on my situation lots of times and don’t need to clarify anything”, in another sign that he is staying at Atletico Madrid.
Simeone confirmed at a Press conference for the Audi Cup preseason tournament that he would not leave Atleti over the summer, and he reaffirmed that stance ahead of Sunday’s clash with Real Betis in La Liga.
“We’re proud of how we competed in both the Copa and the Champions League, we reached the semi-finals of each playing well,” explained the Coach.
“Now we must continue competing for the club’s most important objective, which is to continue in our line of growth.
“Now we’re thinking about Betis, who have always had interesting players and will surely want to give a good send-off to their fans.
“The only other thing I’m thinking is that we need to finalise our objective of third place.
“After that, we’ll analyse details with much more calmness, but today what matters is to be in the Champions League again.
“Fernando Torres? At the moment, there’s nothing more important than the Betis match.
“Betis? They play good football, especially with Ceballos, Cejudo, Joaquin. We have to take the match to where we think it suits us best.
“My future? Nothing’s more important to anyone than what we have to do [on Sunday].
“I’ve commented on my situation lots of times and don’t need to clarify anything.
“Season review? Doing so in the absence of the point that confirms our objective isn’t important for anyone.
“Once we achieve it, we can give an opinion about a season that I’ve always said has been the hardest and the most difficult.”
