Madrid target Spanish left-backs?

Real Madrid are reportedly targeting Real Sociedad’s Yuri Berchiche and Espanyol’s Aaron Martin as left-back reinforcements for next season.

According to Marca, Madrid have run out of patience with Fabio Coentrao, “who spends more time in the gym than on the pitch”.

Consequently, a deputy for Marcelo is at the top of Los Blancos’ wishlist, although the player in question “must meet very specific requirements”.

Madrid are thought to prefer the signing of a Spaniard, and the first name that fits their profile is Yuri, who offers “great performances and patience”.

The 27-year-old began his professional career in England with Tottenham Hotspur in 2007 but did not make his breakthrough in top-flight football until seven years later, when David Moyes promoted him to La Real’s first-choice left-back.

The other is Aaron, who has been “one of the revelations of the season” in La Liga, although the 19-year-old recently extended his contract with Espanyol to 2022.

Both players are also safeguarded by €30m release clauses.

Marca concludes Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso is admired by Madrid but “impossible”, while Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez has fallen out of the reckoning.
