Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes this has been his ‘most difficult’ season at the club but praised his side for reinventing themselves.
Atleti ran out 3-1 winners over Sevilla on Sunday thanks to goals from Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann and Koke to close the gap on the Andalucians in third to just two points.
“Firstly we can talk about ourselves because we had a really tough end to last season – I have always said that,” Simeone told his post-match press conference.
“I think this season is the most difficult I’ve had since being at the club. We’ve had injuries to Jan Oblak, Augusto Fernandez and Tiago.
“Atletico couldn’t win at the beginning of the season but we reinvented ourselves to turn the situation around.
“I think the team is now fitter but we have to be calm because there are still ten league matches remaining.”
Sevilla are now winless in four games across all competitions while Atleti have now won three successive league outings.
