Rayo sign Wigan’s Gomez

Struggling Segunda side Rayo Vallecano have signed Wigan Athletic midfielder Jordi Gomez on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The former Espanyol midfielder joined the Latics in the summer on a year-long contract but has started only 12 of the club’s 27 league fixtures this season and the club were happy to let him join the Vallecas-based club.

Gomez first moved to Britain in 2008 in a year-long loan deal with Swansea before spending five seasons at Wigan – four of which were in the Premier League – and then joined Sunderland on a two-year deal, before re-joining the Championship club this summer.

Rayo, who’s five-year stay in the top flight ended last year, are struggling for form in the second tier and sit 17th, two places above the relegation zone.
