Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident Lionel Messi will soon sign his contract extension and finish his career at the club.
Reports in the Spanish press have indicated the Argentine is considering his long-term future and will not enter into discussions on a new deal until the end of his current one in 2018, with a return to his hometown club Newell’s Old Boys believed to be a possibility.
“I'm sure he'll sign with us again because we're talking about the best player in the world, even in the history of football,” Bartomeu told RMC.
"We love having a player like him, who knows how to turn matches and leagues.
"We have to find dates to talk. Messi is still very motivated and very focused, but we're going to find a moment to talk with him or his agents.
“(Messi) would like to finish his career with us but perhaps one day leave for Argentina or another continent – he's free to do that."
