Suarez ‘won’t lose Barca hunger’

Luis Suarez insists he will not lose “the ambition of winning trophies” with Barcelona after signing a new, five-year contract on Friday.

Suarez’s new deal takes him until 2021, when he will be 34, and includes a €200m release clause, and the attacker is ready to enjoy more success with Barca, having already won two La Liga titles, as many Copa del Reys and a Champions League.

“It’s a source of satisfaction and pride because it means that the club are happy with the work I’m doing,” he told Barca TV.

“It’s a recognition that the club think my work is a good thing. What remains now is continuing to enjoy winning trophies. We hope to meet expectations in this regard.

“Being surrounded by the best players in the world always helps you to improve.

“I try to learn from them and also appreciate the efforts they make in each game.

“Working with my teammates each day has also helped me improve on a human level.

“You see the humility with which the team work, and that makes you work harder.

“Every game with Barca is beautiful to play in. You always remember the trophies, derbies, important goals and those that won the team three points more.

“They are unforgettable moments, but every moment with Barca has been beautiful.

“The club and I always prioritise always winning trophies as a team.  Then, if an individual trophy arrives, it’s always welcome.

“Still, the most important and proud thing is to win trophies. For this reason, we’re the best team in the world.

“There’s still a long time until my contract ends, but I won’t lose the ambition of winning trophies and I’ll continue to enjoy my time here.”
