‘No need to panic’ – Atleti president

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has moved to calm concerns over the club’s recent poor form which has seen them slip to 6th in La Liga.

Los Rojiblancos have lost four of their last seven league outings in a run which has seen them slip twelve points behind league leaders Real Madrid.

"There is no reason to be frightened or alarmed,” Cerezo told Cadena Cope.

"I believe we have a better team than we had last season, and I've seen in previous campaigns situations where teams that trailed by more points almost went on to win the league.

"Against Villarreal, we had three clear chances in 15 minutes of the first half – but we didn't convert them."

The 68-year-old also would not be drawn on speculation surrounding the future of manager Diego Simeone, reinstating he had a contract with his club.

"The comments made by Cholo regarding Inter should not concern anyone," he added.

"I'm not a fortune teller, but we have a contract with him and we believe that contracts are there to be respected."
