OFFICIAL: Valencia sack Pako

Valencia have officially sacked Pako Ayestaran as Coach “after analysis of the current sporting situation and results”.

Ayestaran was given the Valencia job on a permanent basis over the summer after he helped to steady the ship as interim boss in the final two months of last season, but he has paid the price for Los Che starting 2016-17 with four defeats in as many games to leave them bottom of La Liga.

“Following the meeting held today by the board of directors, Valencia CF have decided to relieve Coach Pako Ayestaran from his office,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“The decision was made after analysis of the current sporting situation and results.

“While the club finalises the appointment of a new Coach, the person that will serve as Coach of the first team on an interim basis but with full responsibility and confidence of the club is Voro Gonzalez.

“Valencia CF wish to thank the involvement, effort and professionalism of Pako Ayestaran and his coaching staff in his time at the helm. The club wish him all the best of luck for the future.”

Former Spain defender Voro made over 200 appearances for Valencia between 1984 and 1993 and has been caretaker on three separate spells in the past, most notably achieving Copa del Rey glory in 2008.
