Griezmann apologises to Atleti

Antoine Griezmann has apologised to Atletico Madrid for his relegation remarks after scoring twice in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Celta Vigo.

Griezmann warned Atleti would “end up fighting relegation” after they fired blanks against Leganes a fortnight ago, and he has now confessed he was wrong to make such comments about his teammates.

“I apologise for the comments, I shouldn’t have made them in public,” the French attacker told BeIN Sports, having also given an assist at Balaidos.

“We needed a game like that and I’m very happy for the team. We had a great match.

“We’re used to playing at a high pace during games, and we did so [on Saturday]. They had a great first half, but in the second half we did things very well.

“On a personal level, I’m also very happy. I’m still getting back up to speed, but I’m trying to give everything. I’m very happy for the goals and assist.”
